dtterm -g 80x24
The preceding command results in a dtterm text area size of 80x20 because the menu bar makes up part of the geometry (roughly by four characters). For example, specifying a dtterm of 80x30 will give you a dtterm of 80x30, the actual shell widget size, but the text widget size (the text area inside the dtterm), will be 80x26.
You can see what the text area size is by entering the resize command in the dtterm window.
NOTE: Width and height are expressed in characters.
