Problem Booting an F50 with AIX 4.2.1 Install Media -- GXT110P or GXT120P Adapters

Environment

OS Level: AIX Version 4.2.1
Type/Model: F50

Problem

There is a problem booting an F50 with the GXT110P adapter using an AIX 4.2.1 CD-ROM.

Solution

When booting from AIX 4.2.1 Installation media on systems with a GXT110P or GXT120P adapter, the console selection screen may not appear on the display attached to the GXT110P or GXT120P adapters. This problem has been experienced on 7025-F50 systems, but may not be limited to that configuration.

The problem can be circumvented in two ways:

  1. Use a serially attached terminal (TTY) as the console during the installation.

  2. Use a circumvention diskette available from the following anonymous FTP locations:

    GXT110P: ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/ aix/efixes/ix68882

    GXT120P: ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/ aix/efixes/gxt120p

Instructions for using the circumvention diskettes are included in a README file at the specified locations.

Regardless of which circumvention method is used, the GXT120P device driver should still be installed using the instructions shipped with the adapter after AIX is installed.
