Motif/SMIT Translation Table Syntax Error

Problem

You see the following error message with SMIT and some Motif applications.
	warning-translation table syntax error
	unknown keysym name osf page right

Solution

  1. Check permissions on /usr/lib/X11/XKeysymDB (644) by entering the command ls -l.

  2. Enter xmodmap /usr/lpp/X11/defaults/xmodmap/$LANG/keyboard

  3. Try to run the application. If it is still not working, create a new user.

  4. Try to run the application again. If the application works, the problem is in the user configuration files. Check .profile or .login and .cshrc or .kshrc. Specifically check the XKEYSYMDB environment variable setting.
