About this document

This document discusses the procedures for setting up Documentation Library (Doclib) as your search service in AIX version 4.3.3. Docsearch launches the AIX Documentation Library global search form into a Web browser window. Doclib requires several elements to function correctly. Netscape version 4.04 or later is the recommended browser, and you will need a Web server to serve out the html-based information files.

What to install

Doclib is installed by the following filesets found on Volumes 1 and 2 of AIX Version 4.3.3 installation media. When installing, start with volume 1 and SMIT will prompt for Volume 2.

Volume 1

	bos.docsearch.client.Dt
	bos.docsearch.client.com
	bos.docsearch.rte
	bos.html.en_US.topnav.navigate
	bos.msg.en_US.docsearch.client.Dt
	bos.msg.en_US.docsearch.client.com

Volume 1 and 2

	IMNSearch.bld.all
	IMNSearch.rte.all

NOTE: The IMNSearch filesets install the httpdlite server.

The IBM HTTP Server is available on the first Bonus Pack CD.

Prior to 1.3.6.1:

	http_server.base.core
	http_server.base.source
	http_server.modules.ssl

1.3.6.1 and later:

	http_server.admin
	http_server.base.rte
	http_server.base.source

The html-based filesets required for navigation and messaging:

Configure the Web server

After installing the preceding filesets, you need to configure the Web server through SMIT. Select System Environment, then Internet, followed by Documentation Services. The fast path is smitty web_configure or smit web_configure.

  1. Select Change/Show Default Browser and select your browser from the pulldown menu (F4 in SMIT).
  2. Select Change Documentation and Search Server.
  3. Set the Documentation Search Server LOCATION.
  4. Choose either one of the following:
    	Local-this computer
    	Remote computer

NOTE: If the filesets have been installed locally, choose Local-this computer

  5. Press Enter.

After choosing Local-this computer, the entry field should be populated with your Web server. Make the following selections according to the Web server you have chosen.

Configuring Lite NetQuestion Web Server

  1. Web server SOFTWARE Lite NetQuestion web server.
  2. Enter twice.

SMIT will configure the port, cgi-bin directory, and the html documentation directory as follows:

Local web server PORT number = 49213
    	Local web server cgi-bin DIRECTORY = /var/docsearch/cgi-bin
Local web server HTML document directory = /usr/docsearch/html

  3. Enter to configure.

Configuring IBM HTTP Web Server

The document directories will change depending on the version of the HTTP Server. The different versions are indicated below.

  1. Choose Web server SOFTWARE IBM HTTP Server web server in default location
  2. Hit enter twice.

SMIT will configure the port, cgi-bin directory, and the html documentation directory as follows:

    	For HTTP server version 1.3.3.2:
Local web server PORT number = 80
Local web server cgi-bin DIRECTORY = /usr/lpp/HTTPServer/share/cgi-bin Local web server HTML document directory = /usr/lpp/HTTPServer/share/htdocs
  3. Enter to configure.
    	For HTTP server version 1.3.6.1:
Local web server PORT number = 80
    Local web server cgi-bin DIRECTORY = /usr/HTTPServer/cgi-bin
Local web server HTML document directory = /usr/HTTPServer/htdocs
  4. Enter to configure.

NOTE: The cgi-bin directory should have world executable permissions.

You may need to add the following line in /etc/inittab to enable the IBM HTTP Server Webserver at boot:

Prior to 1.3.6.1:

	httpd:2:once:/usr/lpp/HTTPServer/sbin/httpd & >/dev/console 2>&1

For 1.3.6.1 and later:

	httpd:2:once:/usr/HTTPServer/sbin/httpd & >/dev/console 2>&1

If, however, you chose Remote computer, enter in the fully qualified name of the remote host machine. The cgi-bin directory and document directory will be set by that machine. Additionally, you will need to verify the paths on the remote machine. Finally, you will need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Using the Documentation Library

Doclib can be executed from within a graphical environment such as Xwindows or the Common Desktop Environment (CDE) in the following two ways:

NOTE: If you plan to run the Netscape browser from a machine which does not have a graphical console, first ensure that the following fileset is installed.

	X11.compat.lib.X11R5

Use the preview function in SMIT to determine how much disk space will be required to install filesets.

If you are using IBM HTTPServer version 1.3.6, you may see broken GIF's and indexes. This is a documented problem, and the APAR used to correct it is IY05162.
