Unable to Boot an F50 From CD-ROM
Environment
OS Level: AIX Version 4.2.1
Type/Model: F50
Problem
After going through the System Management Services (SMS) menus and
pressing F5 when booting, the user is still unable to boot a model
F50 from the CD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM is operational because
the user booted and installed an 850 desktop earlier the same day.
Solution
This is a microcode problem with the F50. To determine and obtain the latest
level of microcode, go to http://www.rs6000.ibm.com/support/
micro/download.html.
The following steps are a workaround to this problem:
- At the main SMS menu, select the Install From menus
and select the CD-ROM.
or
At the main SMS menu, press the number 8 key to get an OK>
prompt.
- Enter the following:
boot cdrom:\ppc\chrp\bootfile.exe
-
Generally, if the system cannot boot from the CD-ROM, the following
error appears:
prep boot: could not open deblocker
If this happens, the firmware will have to be upgraded to the latest
level of microcode.
