restoresymtable Is Not Found When Trying to Restore backbyinode

Environment

OS Level: AIX Version 3.2.5
Type/Model: 550

Problem

When restoring a backup by inode archive, the file restoresymtable cannot be found. This file is created in the file system which is being restored.

Solution

The restoresymtable file is only created from a level 0 backup. To restore an incremental archive, you must at least restore this file from the previous level 0 archive (if not the entire level 0 archive). By doing so, the restore command will know where to put the files.
