Compilation (V1.3.3,V1.5)

Straightforward. Unpack the source archive and follow the instructions in README,INSTALL:

configure        # defaults to gcc, /usr/local/
make clean
make
make install

To use native compiler and custom installation directory:

configure CC=cc CFLAGS=-O2 --prefix=/tmp/gzip-1.3.3

It seems large file support is enabled by default.
