NCD NCD SYSTEMS CORPORATION Technical Note Setting up a Unix LPR Printer in WinCenter A. Double click on Control Panel then Network then select Add Software. Click on the down arrow icon and select the TCP/IP Protocol and related components, then click on Continue. Select the TCP/IP Network Printing Support, and follow the prompts that lead to a restart. B. On the Unix side, the printer queue must be established, the hosts.lpd file must contain the WinCenter host name and pcnfsd must be running. To check pcnfsd, use the command: rcpinf -p UnixHostName | grep -i nfs. Please also make sure that the hosts.equiv file on the UNIX side includes the WinCenter host name. C. To create a printer from NT, go to the Console (not the X Display). Double click on Control Panel then Printers. In the Print Manager window, bring up the Printer pull down menu and select Create Printer. At the Print To: pulldown box, click on the down arrow icon and select Other then select LPR Port. Type in the UNIX host name, then type in the printer name and click on OK. D. Click on Details... and specify a Separator File. The file you pick will depend on the printer type you are testing. See HELP for the appropriate Separator page file to use for your printer type. Once you are finished, click OK. E. Now fill in the other text values; Printer Name and Description (be as descriptive as possible: bldg, floor, model, printer location, etc.). Click on OK. The printer has been created. 3 1 1
