NCD NCD SYSTEMS CORPORATION Technical Note Using a NCD Floppy Drive as WinCenter Network Drive You can connect a floppy drive to an NCD desktop device and access that drive as a network drive using WinCenter Pro. Setting up a floppy disk drive is a three-step process. To do this you must: 1. Connect the floppy disk drive hardware to the NCD desktop devices. 2. Configure NCDware to recognize the parallel port where the floppy drive is connected. See "Configuring NCDware" on page 3-5 for instructions. 3. Enable the drive in WinCenter Pro. Configuring NCDware for a Floppy Disk Drive For you to use your floppy disk drive, NCDware must recognize the parallel port where the drive is connected. To do this: 1. On the NCD desktop device, press the Setup key to display the NCDware Console. 2. From the NCDware Console, select Setup --> Change Setup Parameters --> Parallel Daemons Table --> Use Parallel Protocol. 3. Toggle the Use Parallel Protocol button until the value reads true. 4. Click Apply. Enabling the Floppy disk Drive in WinCenter Pro There are several ways to enable the floppy drive, depending on whether or not all of the NCD desktop devices on the network have floppy drives attached. To enable the floppy drive correctly, make sure you do so from the Windows NT applications server. Do not use any other desktop. If you do, enabling may appear to work, even though it has not. Note: Make sure that all users are logged off the network before you begin this procedure. Any users still on the network while you are enabling floppy drives are forcibly logged off. Enabling All Floppy Disk Drives If every NCD desktop device on the network has a floppy drive attached and you want users to have access to the drive when they log on, follow these steps: 1. If you have not already done so, log on as administrator and enter the appropriate password. 2. Double click on the Administrative Tools folder. 3. Double click on the WinStation configuration Icon. 4. Double click on the WinCenter WinStation. The Edit WinStation Configuration screen appears. 5. Click the Advanced WinStation button at the bottom of the screen. The advanced WinStation Configuration screen appears: 6. In the Client Devices section of the screen, click on the box for Connect client drives at Logon. 7. Make sure that the Connect client LPTs at Logon box is not selected. If it is (there is an X in the box), click on the box to clear the selection. 8. Click OK to accept the advanced configuration and then click OK again to accept the basic configuration. 9. From the menu bar, select File--> Shutdown --> Shutdown and Restart. Enabling Selected Floppy Disk Drives If only a few NCD desktop devices have floppy drives attached, but you want their users to have access to the drive when they log on, follow these steps: 1. If you have not already done so, log on as administrator and enter the appropriate password. 2. Double click on the Administrative Tools folder. 3. Double click on the WinStation Configuration icon. 4. Double click on WinCenter WinStation. 5. Click the Advanced WinStation Button at the bottom of the screen.
