The preferred method for sharing CD-ROM drives is to add SCSI CD-ROM drives to the Novell File Server and mount them as volumes. This document will address two Novell environments: (A) Novell NetWare 3.11 (B) Novell NetWare 3.12/4.x. SETUP: ------ Novell File Server Software. A. For NetWare 3.11, there is no support included for NetWare Server mounted CD-ROM volumes. Meridian Data, Inc. sells CD-NET for NetWare for this purpose. The Meridian Data CD-NET for NetWare is a software package that allows a Novell fileserver to control and mount CD-ROM's as if they were standard NetWare volumes. This allows everyone on the LAN to have access (if given) to the CD-ROM's that are mounted as standard network drives. B. For Netware 3.12/4.x, CD-ROM support is included. The included support within NetWare 3.12/4.x is similar to Meridian's CD-NET for NetWare, and is covered in the Novell Network Support Encyclopedia under titles CD-ROM Setup under Netware 3.12 and Mounting a CD-ROM Device as a Netware Volume. OPERATION: ---------- In both cases, the procedure does not effect the WinView and client programs (Lanlink, Remote Link and IPlink) configuration, installation or operation. Once the CD-ROM(s) are installed, configured and mounted in the Novell File Server, access to them are the same as accessing a network drive from a workstation.
