This service pack changes only files that were originally installed when you installed WinFrame Version 1.7. Service pack releases are cumulative: they contain all previous fixes as well as any new fixes made to the system. In addition to fixes to the WinFrame operating system, this service pack includes new versions of the WinFrame DOS, Win16, and Win32 Clients. Installation of this service pack requires a minimum of 30MB free disk space. If you are installing the network version, you will also need approximately 25MB for the self-extracting executable. 2.0 Installation Instructions for the WinFrame Version 1.7 Service Pack 5B ----------------------------------------------------------- Installing the Service Pack from a Network Drive: 1. At a command prompt, change to the network drive on which the service pack files reside. 2. Type UPDATE. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. 2.1 Updated WinFrame Clients for the Client Disk Creator Utility ----------------------------------------------------------------- This service pack contains the latest WinFrame clients, Version 3.00.344. The service pack updates the client files used by the Client Disk Creator utility. After the service pack is installed, run the Client Disk Creator to create new client installation diskettes. 2.2 Installing Service Pack 5B on a System with Remapped Drives ---------------------------------------------------------------- Service Pack 5B can be installed on WinFrame servers whose host drive letters have been remapped. The mapping for the original drive C MUST be the lowest drive letter in the system; for example: C: -> M: D: -> N: An example of a drive mapping scenario in which Service Pack 5B will fail to install is as follows: C: -> Q: (Note that Q: is NOT lower than P:.) D: -> P: If the remapped drive C is not the lowest drive letter, you will receive the following error: Noncritical Error -- External library procedure ForceFileNoCompress reported the following error: Out of memory cannot continue. Citrix is working on a solution for future service pack installations. As a workaround, temporarily change your drive mapping for the original drive C so that it is mapped to the lowest drive letter of all drives. After the service pack is installed, you can restore the drive C mapping to its previous setting. 2.3 User Notes --------------- *** New Customized Installation of the WinFrame DOS and Win32 Clients Many system administrators have asked us how they could create customized WinFrame PC Client installation diskette sets that are preconfigured for their users. See "Creating Customized WinFrame Client Diskettes" in the WinFrame Readme included with this service pack for complete information. NOTE: The Win16 Client installation cannot be customized. *** Clear Text Password Added for ICA Files A clear text (unencrypted) password has been added for the user account. This is an optional field. To use a clear text password, the Password field must be set to a null value; for example, Password=. Then a new field, ClearPassword, should be set to the clear text password you desire. See the "ICA File Syntax" topic in the WinFrame Readme for more information. *** Updated ICA Web Clients The updated ICA Web Clients have been tested for compatibility with the 4.x versions of Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. Service Pack 5B for WinFrame 1.7 contains updated ICA Web Clients. Updated information for using ICA Web Clients can be found at the Citrix Web site. Using your Internet Browser, navigate to http://www.citrix.com/technology/empower/default.htm to learn how to empower your Web site with WinFrame and the ICA Web Clients. Updates for the ICA Web Clients for Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator are available at .\WFCWEB. The ICA Web Client for Internet Explorer can be updated in the following manner: 1. Determine the location of the WFICA.CAB file on your Web Server. 2. Copy the new WFICA.CAB file from the .\WFCWEB directory to the location on the Web server. 3. In the HTML source code, find the CODEBASE tag. The CODEBASE tag points to the location of the WFICA.CAB file on your Web server. Here is an example of what the CODEBASE tag usually looks like. CODEBASE="http://www.citrix.com/wfica.cab" In order for the ICA Web Client to update, you must append the version number of the updated client CAB file to the CODEBASE. The new Version tag for the ICA Web Client included in Service Pack 5B is "4,2,277,344". Here is an example of the CODEBASE tag with the updated Version tag included. CODEBASE="http://www.citrix.com/wfica.cab#Version=4,2,277,344" Adding the Version tag to the CODEBASE causes all previous versions of the Internet Explorer Web Client to be upgraded when the user connects to the Web page. The ICA Web Client for Netscape Navigator must be updated by installing the updated Netscape Plugin. The 32-bit Netscape Plugin can be installed by running WFPLUG32.EXE on the client machine. To install the 16-bit Netscape Plugin, run WFPLUG16.EXE on the client machine. *** Enhanced Screen Updates (Client Only) To improve client performance, the way screen refreshes occur has been enhanced. You may notice slight differences in the way screens are refreshed. However, your finished on-screen images will appear exactly as expected when the refresh is completed. *** Emergency Repair Disk If it is necessary to use the emergency repair disk to repair your WinFrame Version 1.7 system at some time after you apply the service pack, you must reapply the service pack when the repair is completed because the emergency repair disk repairs your system by restoring the original WinFrame Version 1.7 setup files. When the repair is done, follow the above installation instructions to reapply the service pack. It is a good idea to update your emergency repair disk immediately after installing the service pack. This way, you will not have to reinstall the service pack after completing a repair operation. *** Adding New Components to the System If software or hardware components are changed or added to your system after you have applied the service pack, you must reapply the service pack because the files in WinFrame Version 1.7 may not be equivalent to the files in the service pack. It is not possible to install new components directly from the service pack (such as a new keyboard or printer driver). New components must be installed from the original product media. *** Installing Symbol Files for Service Pack 5B Updated symbol files for Service Pack 5B for WinFrame 1.7 are available on the Citrix BBS, FTP, or Web site. NOTE: Do not install the symbol files on your system unless directed to by Citrix Technical support. The symbol files do not affect system performance but require about 30MB of disk space. 2.4 List of Hotfixes in WinFrame Version 1.7 Service Pack 5B ------------------------------------------------------------- Below is a summary of the hotfixes contained in Service Pack 5B. Syntax: CLTPRINT [/Q] [/PIPES:nn] [/?] Options: /PIPES:nn Sets the specified number of printer pipes. This number must be between 10 and 63. /Q Displays the current number of printer pipes. /? (help) Displays the syntax for the utility and information about the utility's options. Remarks: Printer pipes are used to send data from applications to client print spoolers. The number of pipes specifies the number of print jobs that can be sent to the spooler simultaneously. The default number of printer pipes is 10. The Spooler service must be stopped and restarted after changing the number of pipes. Print jobs already spooled will continue printing. Print jobs sent to the spooler will get an error message. Make sure no users start printing during the time the spooler service is stopped. ALTADDR Usage ------------- This utility is used to query and set the alternate (external) IP address that a WinFrame server will return to clients who request it. The alternate IP address is an external address used by WinFrame clients outside a firewall. Syntax: ALTADDR [/SERVER:servername] [/SET alternateaddress] ALTADDR [/SERVER:servername] [/SET adapteraddress alternateaddress] ALTADDR [/SERVER:servername] [/DELETE] ALTADDR [/SERVER:servername] [/DELETE adapteraddress] Options: /SERVER:servername Specifies the WinFrame server on which to set an alternate IP address; otherwise the current WinFrame server is used. /SET Sets alternate IP addresses. If adapteraddress is specified, alternateaddress is assigned to that network adapter only. /DELETE Deletes all alternate addresses on the specified server. If adapteraddress is specified, deletes only the alternate address for that adapter. /V (verbose) Displays information about the actions being performed. /? Displays the syntax for the utility and information about the utility's options. Examples: Example 1: Set the alternate address to 1.1.1.1 for the current server: ALTADDR /SET 1.1.1.1 Example 2: Set the alternate address to 1.1.1.1 on the network interface with adapteraddress 2.2.2.2: ALTADDR /SET 2.2.2.2 1.1.1.1 Example 3: Delete all alternate addresses on the current server: ALTADDR /DELETE 4.0 Detailed Hotfix Information -------------------------------- For detailed hotfix information, see the enclosed HOTFIXES.TXT file.
