Linux installation and customization

NOTE: Prior to installation on POWER hardware, ensure the latest firmware level.

RHEL 5.3/5.5 PPC

Installation is straightforward. Insert media, reboot and answer the questions. One may install just everything, this will take around 4GB disk space. One may also perform network configuration at installation time.
The Red Hat installer asks for a subscription number, but in my experience one can skip that.

Time client setup for ntp
Log files
Startup and login profiles
File systems

Users:
For the time being done manually:

useradd -b /u -g bio           -m -u <userid> <username> # ordinary user
useradd -b /u -g bio -G biodev -m -u <userid> <username> # developer

and don't forget to assign a password.
