A limited number of Source Code files are excluded from the product business reasons, such as code that IBM does not have the right to redistribute and code that was excluded to protect proprietary algorithms. Approximately 3 percent of the Source Code files of the base operating system and optionally installable software products included in the AIX Version 3.2 Source Code have been excluded. A list of all excluded source code files will be included in the Memo to Users delivered with the product.
Where source files have been excluded, linkable object modules and necessary "make" files are provided to enable users to modify and recompile Source files and rebuild their own executable system.
Separately orderable features such as HANFS, FDDI, Block Multiplexor Channel and the following optionally installable software product are not included as part of AIX Version 3.2 for RISC System/6000 Source Code:
Note: The Installation Instructions for AIX Version 3.2 for RISC System/6000 (SC23-2341-03) contain additional information on the optional program components.
IBM is providing a consultation service for AIX/6000 Version 3.2 Source Code licensees. This consultation service includes question and answer support on unmodified systems relating to installing the Source Code, building a system, creating installable media and installing the built system.
The consultation service will operate on a call back basis. This consultation service is available to customers for six months after delivery of their order. Additional information on the structure, operation, and access of the consultation service is included in the Memo to Users delivered with the product.
Electronic Question and Answer support is provided for AIX Version 3.2 Source Code for RISC System/6000 through IBMLink (DIAL-IBM). Support is provided in English only to customers for six months after delivery of their order. Contact your local marketing representative for information on IBMLink.
This program is designed to execute on RISC System/6000 POWERstations and POWERservers configured with at least one supported display with keyboard, or one ASCII terminal with keyboard.
A minimum of 16MB Random Access Memory (RAM) is required when considering total system memory requirements.
For AIX Version 3.2 for RISC System/6000 Source Code, total system memory includes AIX Version 3.2 for RISC System/6000. Additionally, a minimum of 300MB -900MB of fixed-disk storage is also required.
Note: A minimum of 900 MB DASD storage reserved for the source files and build tools is required to perform a complete build. 300 Mb fixed-disk storage is required to load the source code files.
Either IBM RISC System/6000 7207 models 001 or 011 1/4-inch tape drive or IBM RISC System/6000 7208 Model 001 8MM tape drive are required.
An additional 90MB for AIX Version 3.2. for RISC System/6000 Source Code may be required depending upon the installable media chosen.
Customers must be informed of reasonable lead time required for verification of licenses through the licensing entities.
AIX/6000 Version 3.2 Source Code requires AIX Version 3.2 for RISC System/6000 (5756-030) to be installed for modifying and compiling the source files. Several of the optional installable software products included with the AIX Version 3.2 for RISC System/6000, such as the Base Application Development Toolkit and XL C Compiler 1.2, BOS Extensions 1 and AIX XL C Compiler 1.2 (for AIX Version 3.2 for RISC System/6000 Source Code) are also required.
AIX Version 3 source code for RISC System/6000 is available as a non-standard, I-Listed PRPQ requiring approval to order from the plant of control. Once approval has been attained, contact Special Products Marketing (SPM) to arrange for a one-day ordering window.
If Network File System (TM) (NFS) is compiled on this system the secure mount facility of NFS is not supported. System errors will result from using the "-secure" option of the mount command on systems containing executable code from full or partial builds of NFS.
This PRPQ is not supported on RISC System/6000 POWERstation/POWERserver 220 (Machine Type 7011)
Performance may be affected by the total system memory available, the amount of fixed-disk storage available and type/performance of disk drives. Performance may also be affected by the type and function of the applications selected and running at the same time.
Build times may be dependent upon the amount of Random Access Memory (RAM) storage on the machine. Increasing the RAM storage could increase performance.
